Catallaxy-based Grid markets

چکیده
Grid computing has recently become an important paradigm for managing computationally demanding applications (composed of a collection of services). Providing dynamic discovery of services, and the determination of a service with the “best value” remains a complex problem in Grid computing. Such a decision is a multi-attribute n : m allocation problem, and often made using a centralized component in existing systems. We propose a two layered architecture for service discovery in such Application Layer Networks (ALN) and Grids. The first layer consists of a service market in which complex services are traded, and can be chosen based on price and availability. The second layer provides an allocation of services to appropriate resources in order to carry out the specific services. This work comprises the foundations for the comparison of centralized and decentralized market mechanisms for allocation of services and resources in ALN and Grid markets. This work has partially been funded by EU IST progamme under grant 003769 “CATNETS”.

On the Design of a Two-Tiered Grid Market Structure
Designing an end-to-end Grid market for computational utility with service requesters on the one side, and resource providers on the other, can become a complex issue. This paper motivates to break up into two different, though interdependent markets, in which both a market engineering process is carried out: a resource market to build basic servies out of computational and data resources, and ...
متن کاملMarkets and Negotiations in the Grid Economy: How decentralized and centralized economic approaches perform
Within several communities, dynamic and flexible allocation of computational resources is in the center of the current research interest. Grid Computing, e-Infrastructures, GÉANT, Utility Computing are several of the fields, which intensely work on such approaches. However, after seeing substantial progress on physically accessing computational facilities through innovative middleware (such as ...
متن کاملA catallactic market for data mining services
We describe a Grid market for exchanging data mining services based on the Catallactic market mechanism proposed by von Hayek. This market mechanism allows selection between multiple instances of services based on operations required in a data mining task (such as data migration, data pre-processing and subsequently data analysis). Catallaxy is a decentralized approach, based on a “free market”...
متن کاملEnabling the Simulation of Service-Oriented Computing and Provisioning Policies for Autonomic Utility Grids
A key issue in utility computing environments, such as utility Grids, is the provisioning, orchestration and allocation of resources to services. In these environments, providers need to decide how resources are allocated to service applications according to their workloads, guaranteeing the Quality of Service (QoS) required by customers. Autonomic computing inspired mechanisms are appealing to...
متن کاملDecentralized vs. Centralized Economic Coordination of Resource Allocation in Grids
Application layer networks are software architectures that allow the provisioning of services requiring a huge amount of resources by connecting large numbers of individual computers like in Grid or Peer to Peer computing Controlling the resource allocation in those net works is nearly impossible using a centralized arbitrator The network simulation project CATNET will evaluate a decentralized ...
